Welcome to ALTIA CENTRAL's Japanese Learning Resource Hub for aspiring ALTs!
At ALTIA CENTRAL, we recognize the impact that even a little Japanese can have on the daily lives of our ALTs. Our goal is to help you not only prepare for the Japanese portion of the interview process but also to equip you with the essential Japanese language skills you'll encounter in your schools.
While we believe, alongside our client schools and Boards of Education (BOEs), that Japanese should not be used in the classroom with students, we also understand that ALTs operate within a Japanese-speaking environment. Many of your colleagues, including teachers and school staff, may have limited to no English proficiency. By enhancing your Japanese skills, you can foster better communication and build stronger relationships with your coworkers, creating a more seamless and enriching work experience.
Join us as we guide you through the common Japanese phrases and scenarios you'll encounter, helping you navigate your new environment with confidence and ease.
On this page, we will explain the Japanese Interview in more detail and walk you through everything you need to know to prepare.
Here we will help you learn the basics of Katakana, as well as how to write your own name with it.
This page will guide you through the fundamentals of delivering a proper Jikoshokai and offer tips on how to elevate your self-introduction skills to the next level.
On this page, we'll introduce you to common Japanese vocabulary that you may encounter in and around schools.
On this page, you will find a list of some of the most common phrases that might be used when giving students instruction in Japanese.
On this page, we will share some of our favorite tools to help you study the Japanese language.
While our goal is to help you better prepare for the Japanese language you may encounter in schools as an ALT, we also want to offer you a chance redo your Japanese interview and improve your score. Even a slight improvement over your original Japanese Interview would help make you a more attractive candidate for any potential positions that may come available.
To book your attempt at a redo of your Japanese interview, send an email to Graham at recruit@altiacentral.com with several dates and times you are available. Please note that interview slots are limited, so providing multiple options will help us accommodate your schedule.
Please be aware that typically, each applicant is only allowed one opportunity to redo their Japanese Interview.
