PE Introduction

My name is Leslie Hitchcock. I will be your school physical education teacher for grades 1-6. I’m excited to begin the school year teaching the students healthy lifestyles and also the importance of kindness, teamwork, and positive behavior. I am aware that not all students enjoy PE. With that said, I do plan various activities that allow all students to show their abilities. Also, I do teach students various health-related topics throughout the year such as the importance of hydration, bones, and muscles in the body. Lastly, I do incorporate various brain game activities and math skills that challenge students to think, analyze, and think critically about the various activities.

Students will be given opportunities for water and restroom breaks. Please encourage your students to bring their own water to stay hydrated during our activities. If possible, please encourage students to wear supportive shoes on PE days. The reason is to ensure their safety. Students wearing boots, flats or sandals are more likely to experience injuries.

Short-term excuses for non-participation

A student can be excused from PE. The student's parent or legal guardian must email Mrs. Hitchcock before class begins. Emails are preferred. If parents or legal guardians do provide a handwritten note, the note must have the student's full name, teacher’s name, and parent phone number. I do try to call parents to validate the note. A student can only provide the note for up to 3 school days. If the student has a note for the following PE class (after the 3 days), I will need a doctor's note.

Long-term excuses for non-participation

Students who need to be excused for more than 3 school days will need to provide documentation from a physician regarding the student’s injury or other health-related conditions. Students who are unable to physically participate in PE will be provided with alternative activities.

I am excited to have the opportunity to teach, encourage, and strengthen your students mentally, physically, and emotionally this school year. The best form of contact is email, as I travel to different school sites. Please feel free to email me with questions. Have a wonderful week.
