This is a reading for the students to learn about the printing press. You can read it to them. You can go over key definitions that are in the story itself. If you would like, you can make choice cards are use the words of the student to have them learn the key words. You can ask them the definition and then choose the correct word to go with it.

First Part

Pull up this website: https://www.history.com/topics/inventions/transcontinental-railroad. It will help express the background the of Transcontinental Railroad. There are some visuals that you can look at with the student. If your student has a visual disability, you can explain what is in the picture. Focus on tools they are holding. What activities they are doing and objects that are in the picture.

Second Part

We will look at a primary source of Mark Twain and the Transcontinental Railroad. Explain that a primary source comes directly from the person that is experiencing the event that is going on.

Third Part
