Friday, October 27th
We did a Hot Spot Volcano lab the whole day.
Wednesday, October 25th
We started by turning in our old table of contents and starting a new one. We then did a geologic features worksheet and made a set of plate boundaries flash cards. We used the flash cards to answer questions on a plate tectonics poster review sheet. This was the first day of TERM 2!
Wednesday, October 18th
We introduced Hot Spots and then added a diagram of a hot spot to our Plate Tectonics Packet. We finished by watching a video about Yellowstone, which is an example of a Hot Spot volcano. This was the last day of TERM 1!
Monday, October 16th
We took our Plate Tectonics Mastery Quiz on Quia and then reviewed the different plate boundaries.
Thursday, October 12th
We played a kahoot to review for the Plate Tectonics Mastery Quiz we will be taking on Monday.
We then practiced drawing each of the boundaries and connecting them using the white boards.
Tuesday, October 10th
We looked at and added the diagrams for convergent, ocean-continent subduction, and ocean-ocean subduction boundaries to our Plate Tectonics Packet using this powerpoint.
We practiced drawing the boundaries from memory and then connecting them using the whiteboards and markers.
Friday, October 6th
For our Bellwork / Phenomenon sheet we watched a video of volcanic lightning.
Afterwards, we passed out and started working on our Plate Tectonics Packet. We went through the first part and then worked on the section for Divergent Boundaries and Transform Boundaries. After completing these sections of our packet we received and talked about our unit project which will be due the first week of November.
Wednesday, October 4th
We watched a video about tsunamis and students answered the question what causes tsunamis on their Bellwork / Phenomenon sheet.
We continued to work on our Platey Planet map, analysis and memorizing the names and locations of each plate. 30 minutes before the end of class we took our Platey Planet mastery quiz.
Monday, October 2nd
Students answered the question "What two things did we use to locate the boundaries (edges) of tectonic plates?" on their Bellwork / Phenomenon sheet.
We then looked at the location of all of the Earth's tectonic plates and then colored in and wrote the names of each plate onto individual copies of the Earth. Here is a completed map.
Thursday, September 28th
Students filled out the fifth section of their Bellwork / Phenomenon.
We completed our personal maps showing the location of volcanoes and earthquakes and then added it to our class map. We then received and completed a yellow analysis worksheet based on our maps.
Tuesday, September 26th
We reviewed for and then took our Convection Mastery Quiz on Quia.
Each student received a sheet with the coordinates for a month of volcanoes and earthquakes that happened around the world. Students then marked on their personal map where each of these earthquakes (blue pen) and volcanoes (red pen) were.
Friday, September 22nd
For our bellwork we drew a convection cell and labelled which parts would be hot, cold, more dense, and less dense.
We then finished working on our Geosphere Review Sheets. Afterwards, we played a kahoot game and then practiced drawing convection cells on the whiteboards.
