Alpine Days

By: Alexandra Osipenko and Spencer Standing

In the bustling cold this past month, many amazing athletes from our school ran their hearts out at Alpine Days. Alpine Days is a big district event that the top athletes in each track and field event at our school got to participate in. Students competed in the 100M, 200M, 400M, 800M, 1600M, 3200M, high jump, long jump, and shot put competitions. Since the end of March, the track athletes here at Lakeridge worked hard every day after school to prepare for this big event.

On their way to victory

By Dana Gonzalez A shot was fired. This may not be a murder scene, but people are still running for their lives. The pressure was on the Lakeridge Leopards as they competed with Willow Creek Junior High on Wednesday. Our competitors traveled all the way from Lehi to Lakeridge to go toe to toe with our track students. The weather was perfect for athletes to compete and for the roaring crowd to watch and cheer. This meet was high-stakes because of the haunting meet with one of Lakeridge biggest rivals, Orem Junior High. That meet is always one of the most crowded, and usually the one with the most student support. This was also one meet closer to the most anticipated meet…. Alpine Days. This meet was a great opportunity to establish their rank in the track world. No matter the outcome, we're all proud of our track team!

By Makena Fe’a and Lauren Roberts Baseball is a huge American pastime and plays a huge role in many people’s lives from playing to watching. Many students at Lakeridge play either for the high school team, a club team, or a city league time. Baseball is a hard sport that requires a lot of practice, especially if you want to play on a high level. For 9th graders the highest level right now that they can play on this year is the high school team. As 9th graders making the high school baseball team is a huge accomplishment and many of our students play for either Mountain View, Orem, or even Timpanogos. Two of those 9th grade students that made the high school team are Dalton Strickland [9] and Camden Decker [9]. Dalton and Camden play for the Orem high school team. Dalton plays on the JV team and Camden plays for the Varsity team. We asked Dalton why he plays baseball and he said, “Because it’s hard and challenging. It’s also outside and you get a lot of tan lines.” We also talked to Camden about what his favorite memory was from baseball. Camden said ¨When I went to New York with my team and got to play there.¨ As you can see baseball is a fun sport and creates many memories. Everyone should try baseball or softball because it is sure to be a home run.
