Students in the art room are graded on ATTITUDE not TALENT. That means that your grade is based on good behavior, not on how good you are at drawing stuff. So, how DO you get a good grade?
So again.... I GRADE STUDENT BEHAVIOR AND ATTITUDE, not talent. Every student starts with a passing grade just by being there and creating art with me. Students who receive a "did not participate" in Skyward for a project grade would be students who refuse to try new things, who literally choose not to participate. As you might imagine, this is very rare.
THINGS THAT WILL HELP YOU SUCCEED IN ART:
BE ON TIME - It is hard to know what is going on if you come to class late all the time.
HAVE AN "I CAN" ATTITUDE - Too many times when things get tough, I hear kids say "I can't do it!" You CAN do it if you just keep trying! And if your project when sideways on you... just enjoy the process and don't worry about the end result.
TAKE THE RISK! TRY NEW THINGS! - The only way to learn something new is to TRY IT. You will probably crash and burn the first few times... try anyway! Expect to make mistakes when you are trying new things. Instead of saying "I'm no good at art", say "I'm still learning" or, "I don't think I'm very good at it YET".
PAY ATTENTION - Don't be the student sitting there wondering what is going on because you weren't listening! Pay attention and you'll know what to do.
DO YOUR BEST - Always try to do better today than you did yesterday, that is the way to grow!
DON'T COMPARE YOURSELF TO OTHERS - Everyone is on a different part of the journey. If you see someone with a lot of "talent", that is someone who has spent a lot more time practicing those skills on their own for fun. Only compare yourself to what you did yesterday. That is how we see growth.
FOLLOW THE RULES - The classroom rules are there to help you be your best and to keep you safe. Follow them! Click HERE to see the art room rules.
