Bowls, plates, and votives, oh my!
I have started experimenting with creating yarn bowls, plates, and lidded forms. All three forms are tricky for different reasons. I am very excited about this new learning!
I created this set of candle votives as a gift for a friend. They were incredibly time consuming to make. I love them, so I will probably make more of them soon!
This was a wonderful set of bowls and a soap dish that I enjoyed making very much. I have been learning how to throw on the wheel for about a year and a half now, so this is new learning for me! For the first time I felt like I was successful throwing a larger amount of clay on the wheel (about 4 lbs. of clay for each bowl). The soap dish was hand-built with slab construction. The hole in the middle was an accident during the carving phase. These things happen! We often have to embrace mistakes and just keep going, finding a way to work the mistake into the final piece.
This is a watercolor sketch self portrait. I took a selfie while I was sitting in my kayak out in the lake last summer. Then I used the selfie as a reference photo to create this watercolor sketch.
This is a watercolor sketch of my daughter stand-up-paddle boarding on a small lake in Montana during the summer of 2020.

At a recent art teacher professional development meeting we were given the opportunity to spend part of the time working on some art. It is important to remember the artist in the teacher sometimes!
I spent the time doing a watercolor sketch (meaning this is meant to be a practice painting, not a final work of art) of a memory of standing at the base of Stewart Falls.
I've been playing around with the sPen and drawing app on my phone lately. It's fun to doodle in spare moments here and there. I made a series of drawings of me... just little 5 minute digital doodles.
Charcoal and conté chalk on paper
At a recent state-wide visual art conference I had the opportunity to sit in on a live studio drawing session. There were three models posing in the center of the room and the artists sat or stood in a circle around them. This was my final drawing for that session. It took an hour, broken into three 20-minute sessions to allow the models to take breaks.
Interesting trivia fact... the glass was holding water with food coloring in it. ;)

Before the 20-21 school year began, I took a girl's trip with my daughter to Glacier National Park in Montana. It was a wonderful and beautiful trip.
I've been going kayaking every warm day that presents itself. I find that I can keep myself safely isolated like I'm supposed to while still enjoying being outside, exercising, and finding the happiness that water brings me!
I started learning how to knit two years ago. I love watching the pattern grow from the needles.
As an artist, I have two studios I do my artwork in... the Feral Clay Studio where I work on pottery, and my personal home studio where I draw and paint. Below are video tours I created of those two spaces so you can see where I do my creating. Enjoy!
