Mrs. Carter's Class
4th Grade Disclosure Document
My mission as a 4th grade teacher is to provide a warm, caring environment where all students have the opportunity to learn and to become respectful, responsible, and competent citizens. I strive to provide learning activities that follow this mission.
ATTENDANCE: Students are expected to attend school everyday. When a child is late or absent, it is difficult to make up missed lessons and assignments. Many assignments or projects can only be completed during school hours, often in collaborative learning groups. Absence leads to gaps in a student's learning and affects student progress. If student tardiness or excessive absences become a problem, the office will notify parents. Please make every effort to have your child at school and ready to begin on time each day. The day begins at 8:00 and ends at 2:15
COMMUNICATION: I will send important dates and information via email as needed. My class website will also have information updated regularly. Email is the easiest way to contact me, but you may also call the school. 385-579-6330 ext 139-142
CURRICULUM: I follow the Utah State Standards for Grade 4 in all subjects. Some curriculum resources we use are Ready Math and iReady, Wonders 2023, Typing Club, CodeHS, 95% Multisyllabic Words, and Mystery Science.
DISCIPLINE POLICY:
Everyone deserves to be treated with respect. When a student breaks a classroom or school rule, consequences will be handed out with respect.
If you have questions regarding a class’s specific discipline plan, please contact the teacher. Classroom discipline plans will be discussed with the students at the beginning of the school year.
If your child is ever bullied on the way to school, at school, or on the way home from school, please let your child’s teacher know. Bullying is not tolerated.
HOMEWORK: My goal with homework in 4th grade is to give families an opportunity to engage in learning activities with their students. We understand that family time is important and often limited so I have minimized requirements. Each term, students will complete one book project. Students should read 25 minutes each day and spend 40 minutes each week working on math in iReady or as assigned. A reading calendar will be sent home after labor day.
GRADING: We report on the Alpine School District Essential Standards in English and Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies along with reporting in Specialties and Learning Habits. Report cards will be issued digitally at the end of each quarter. Grades will be based on Utah standards using the following scale:
