Books of the week >>>>>

2 favorites this year for Valentine's Week! I am reading Beware of the Frog by William Bee for all grades except 1st (they heard it last year in Kindergarten). Because it is my favorite picture book, I've taught the students things to say as we read and even 6th grade is participating. It is SO FUN! For first grade I am reading Froggy's First Kiss by Johnathan London & Frank Remkiewicz which was my oldest daughter's favorite back in 1st grade. They both have a frog and a kiss! One is surprising and one is a little...SHOCKING.

SHOCK vs SURPRISE

Usually shock is associated with a negative emotion and surprise is associated with a positive emotion. I have used some positive and negative emotion examples this week. For instance, if someone threw you a surprise party, you'd be surprised! But then, if your favorite musical artist showed up and started singing Happy Birthday to you, you might be a little shocked! I also explained that seeing an accident or someone get hurt can make you feel a little shocked as well.

Happy Valentine's Day Belmont!

You're never too old for a picture book!

When I talk about my favorite picture book, I want to remind all of you that you are never too old to read & love picture books. My favorite picture book as a child was Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs by Judi & Ron Barrett. It felt so magical as my elementary librarian read it to me. My vivid imagination went wild! Books are like friends.
