Acadience: Growth

During the current school year, only 51% of K-3 students made "Typical or Better" growth in reading proficiency from the beginning to the middle of the year.

What is the Acadience assessment?

Acadience Reading is a universal screening and progress monitoring assessment that measures the acquisition of early literacy skills from kindergarten through sixth grade. The assessment is comprised of six brief measures that function as indicators of the essential skills that every child must master to become a proficient reader. These measures are used to regularly monitor the development of early literacy skills in order to provide timely instructional support and prevent the occurrence of later reading difficulties.

What is the Acadience "Typical or Better" report?

With Acadience, growth is measured from one Benchmark window to another. A student’s score is compared to other students across the nation who had the same score at the beginning of year and then they are assigned a growth score based on their middle or end of year score. It gives teachers an idea if each student is making comparable growth during the year. There are five growth areas: Well Above, Above, Typical, Below, Well Below

The current state goal is to have at least 60% of students making “Typical or Better” growth. This year, in Alpine School District, about half of our students are making “Typical or Better” growth.
