Advanced Band performed their Spring Concert on April 3rd at the Athenaeum theater. We opened our portion of the concert with Byzantine Dances by Carol Brittin Chambers. This piece introduced new playing techniques like grace notes and trills that added interest and intensity to the music. Next we played Southampton March by Robert Sheldon, which gave us the opportunity to talk about the characteristics of marches. We finished with Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest by Hans Zimmer, arranged by Paul Murtha. Students enjoyed comparing our version to the original movie soundtrack, and got to experience some tricky key signatures that we're not used to playing in.
The Advanced Band Marching Band is back! After the spring concert, we switched gears from concert band mode to marching band mode to prepare for the all school arts event, Arts Together, held on May 22nd. Students performed a Disney themed show, playing When You Wish Upon a Star, We Don't Talk About Bruno, and Let It Go, all while marching into various formations. The audience was wowed by the show, and it was an incredible kick-off to our event celebrating all things arts at AACA!
