The 2023-2024 Advanced Band gave our first performance of the year at the annual school Halloween parade. We played three Halloween songs, including Spooky Scary Skeleton, This is Halloween, and Ghostbusters to accompany each class as they walked out of the school to begin the parade. Both the student body and parents were delighted by the spooky soundtrack that we provided to kick off a fun day of Halloween festivities!

Our first concert of the year was held on November 14th, 2023 at the Athenaeum theater. We opened our portion of the concert with Cape Breton March by John O'Reilly. This piece was all about rhythm, and students got the opportunity sharpen their fluency with more complex rhythm reading as we put it together. Next we played Dark Adventure by Ralph Ford, a student favorite for this concert. Students especially enjoyed the sneaky sounding chromatic melody throughout the piece. We closed the concert with Star Wars: The Last Jedi by John Williams, arranged by Robert Longfield. Students got lots of practice with time signature and tempo changes as we transitioned through different themes from the movie.
