Ready to write and head home
We focus and draw lines and circles
Then, choose just one word
To explore why we write and what we know
Time is fluid in this space
Confidence to publish
Wisdom to know when
"Not what I expected, even better"
Neurographic Drawing
Focus on your writing and how you feel
Draw a line on paper
Connect the lines, soften the connections, color the connections
Share with others.
Writing is like...
Water, it has to flow, Messy, Thinking, A journey, Relaxing, A ride, A symphony or painting, or a rollercoaster.. I am not sure, Thinking, Brining something into the world that will have an impact.
I write because...
I have knowledge to share, I want to share something of value, I need to get thoughts out, It is part of the process of work, I have to, It gets my thoughts out, I enjoy it, I write because I am, therefore I am, To share my thoughts with others.
I know...
Where to start and who to ask, More about how to decide on paper formats, The publishing process, I can write, More about publishing, Predatory journals, That I am an author, I bring my creative self to writing even when it's academic.
What we did... told stories about ourselves and time in Montana and beyond, our childhood, writing, medicine making, journal requirements, and more. We started with a neurographic drawing exercise, focusing on our writing and academic writing. We used a black sharpie to create a line on paper. Lines represented our thoughts and feelings, from straight to squiglly, interconnected to looking like a map, even a figure 8 and a crown. The next part of this process was rounding the edges of where lines intersected on the drawing to connect them in some way- this is the soothing, meditative part of the drawing exercise.
What I felt... inspired, content, appreciated.
What I noticed... confidence, connections, caring, and conversations that will extend beyond this week and workshop.
What I hope... we stay connected, we remember, we publish what is calling us and leave behind publicaitons that are not.
