At the early elementary level, it's important to build keyboard awareness. Finding the letters on the keyboard quickly and accurately helps to build communication skills. As students progress through school, it is developmentally appropriate to teach them proper finger placement on the home row keys of a keyboard, while gradually introducing formal typing lessons.

Coding, or computer programming, is writing a set of instructions that a computer understands so it will perform a task. Learning to code in elementary school builds critical thinking skills. Coding puts children in control of the computer and through experimentation builds mastery in sequencing skills, counting, problem solving, cause and effect, and logical thinking. Kids think coding is fun!
