Allen ISD Empower 1:1 Device Program

Allen ISD is excited to move into year 3 of the Empower 1:1 Student Mobile Device program.  This program is a product of the Allen ISD 2020 bond project, designed to enhance student learning and foster future-ready skills by providing digital technology to every student.   By providing devices to students, the program supports effective integration of digital learning platforms in the classroom while empowering the students to collaborate, communicate, create and enhance their technology skills to support their academic and future professional growth.

Implementation Model 2023-2024 School Year

Empower 1:1 Devices will be deployed to students during the first weeks of the new school year 23-24.  Each campus will handle the deployment of devices for their enrolled students.

The chart to the left indicates the type of device issued per grade level.  The yellow stars indicate which grade levels are entry points for new devices for the 23-24 school year.  Assigned devices will remain with the same student until the next grade level entry point.  All students except PK will have Lenovo 500e 2-in-1 Chromebooks.

PK-2 student devices will remain on campus.  Students in grades 3-12, have the opportunity to take home their device.  Each year a $30 non-refundable insurance fee is offered for students in grades 3-12.  This covers any accidental damage or hardware issues.

Using Your School Issued Chromebook

At School

The Chromebook is intended for use at school each and every day. Students are responsible for bringing their devices to all classes, unless specifically advised not to do so by their teacher. While in class, students are expected to comply with all school rules, policies, and teacher directives.  Students should only use their Chromebook in class when their teacher allows.

Sound must be muted at all times during class unless permission is obtained from the teacher for instructional purposes. It is recommended that a student bring a headset or ear-buds for any audio needs.

If a student leaves the Chromebook at home, he/she is still accountable and responsible for all coursework completed in the required time frame as if the Chromebook were present. Other district computers may, or may not, be available for student use. If a student repeatedly leaves the Chromebook at home, they may be subject to disciplinary consequences or lose the privilege of taking the Chromebook home.

Loaner devices may be issued to students when their devices are being repaired. A limited number of loaner devices are available so a loaner cannot be guaranteed.

At Home

Students are encouraged to use their Chromebooks at home and other locations outside of school. A home Wi-Fi Internet connection will be required for the majority of Chromebook use. However, some applications can be used while not connected to the internet.

Printing

Functionality for printing will be available on a limited basis at school. Details for printing at school will be provided to the student. The Chromebook does not support a physical network connection. Instead users may print to their home printers using the Google Cloud Print service. A wireless home network is required for this.

Photos / Backgrounds / Screensavers

Inappropriate media should not be on the device and may not be used as a screensaver or background photo. Any violation of this is subject to disciplinary action.

Copyright

Illegal downloading and distribution of copyrighted works are serious offenses that carry with them the risk of substantial monetary damages and, in some cases, criminal prosecution. Copyright infringement also violates the District’s Internet Service Provider's terms of service and could lead to limitation or suspension of the District’s Internet service.
