I would like to welcome the students and parents to 6th Grade American History to 1865. I have a deep personal passion for this subject, therefore I greatly look forward to sharing that passion and the past with the students throughout the school year. For as Patrick Henry stated, so eloquently, in his Liberty or Death speech to the Virginia Convention on March 23, 1775: “I have but one lamp by which my feet are guided, and that is the lamp of experience. I know of no way of judging of the future but by the past.”

Patrick Henry’s belief is well illustrated and supported by the most significant living American Historian, David McCullough, when he stated, “History is a guide to navigation in perilous times. History is who we are and why we are the way we are.”
