Library Program Vision
As the school library evolves to a high-tech learning and information center, the role of the ACSD Teacher Librarians as academic collaborators increases the potential for inquiry learning and student information literacy skills. The library in essence becomes the destination for discovery and interaction, where students engage in meaningful projects.
Waukon MS/HS Library
Working together to enhance the school wide curriculum while meeting academic, digital, and recreational needs of students is the philosophy of the ACSD Library Program. Our teaching and learning reflects the Iowa School Library Program guidelines and our Information Literacy Curriculum.
The library is open daily from 7:50 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Many students use the library before school to locate books, read, work on assignments, use the print center, and receive assistance with technology. During the day classes may meet for the period to select materials, do research, check out AR books, or work on online classes. Students may also come during a class period with a pass from their teacher. Students will need to have their planners signed to come to the library and return to class. Students are expected to follow behavior consistent with educational objectives. They may work in quiet groups where talking is at a low noise level or whisper.
MS/HS Library Materials Policy
Students may check out books and magazines for a two-week period. This excludes weekends and non-school days.
Students may have up to four items checked out at one time.
Students may not check out items if they have more than two overdue.
Students may renew items three times.
Overdue materials are assessed at $.10/day except for weekends and vacation periods.
Students will be notified daily, via email, of over due items and fines and have access to login and check library accounts.
Lost materials are assessed at a replacement cost.
All fines are to be paid in a timely manner throughout the school year.
These policies are designed to help students return books on time so that the books are not lost. The library staff appreciates everyone’s efforts in getting materials returned to the library on time and in good condition.
Links on the AEA Resources tab require user ID and passwords, which can be found on student AEA sticker cards in their planners.
East and West Elementary Libraries
