Hello Parents & Guardians, My name is Sharon Nichols, and I am so happy to be the School Counselor at Creekside Elementary. This is my sixth year as a School Counselor at Creekside. I have a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of California, Santa Cruz, a Master's degree in Social Work from California State University, Monterey Bay, and a School Counseling (PPS) credential, from San Jose State University. This is my 8th year working for the Alisal Union School District.

Talk with your child’s teacher about making an appointment for you
By providing education, prevention, early identification, and intervention, elementary school counselors help their students achieve academic success, develop an understanding of career opportunities and develop social/ emotional skills in response to issues they face. (ASCA, 2019)
Teach classroom Social Emotional development lessons
Provide individual Brief Solution-Focused counseling services
Provide short-term small group counseling/mediation sessions
Collaborate with parents, teachers, and staff to support student achievement
Provide information/referrals to outside community resources for additional assistance
The ability to understand their emotions, thoughts, and how they influence behavior across contexts.
The ability to manage their emotions, thoughts, and behaviors effectively in different situations.
The ability to understand another person's perspective, and feelings.
The ability to maintain healthy and supportive relationships with peers and adults.
The ability to make caring and constructive choices about personal behavior and social interactions.
School counselors can provide short-term individual counseling for students, but when more intervention is required, they can coordinate referrals to community agencies. Below is a list of the Alisal Resource Centers, local mental health agencies, and other social service providers. If these agencies do not meet your needs, please let me know. I have a longer, more comprehensive list of outside service providers.
