My name is Jacob Perraud, and I have been working as a Fleet Engineering Intern under Dan Tinkes in Division 660. This summer I have spent a lot of time setting up Bobcats for a future project. This means customizing the vehicle, adding decals, installing fire extinguishers, attaching locks, connecting lights, and hooking up GPS’. In addition, we have been rebuilding a giant drill rig. This involves switching the engine, cleaning the radiator, adding new pumps, installing new hoses, cleaning the interior, attaching pressure gauges, and changing out the rollers. I have also been given the opportunity to visit the Darien office to see more of the fleet, as well as the Hoffman Estates GIS Project, to learn more about the projects Aldridge is involved with and how they are run.
From my experience, I have greatly understood how planning ahead can really maximize efficiency in the shop because some parts take longer than others to arrive, so every worker has a plan accordingly to keep busy.
