The Victorian Certificate of Education - Vocational Major (VCE VM) is a new pathway for senior students that commenced in 2023. The program is designed to support students who intend to enter the workforce or pursue further education in a vocational career, such as an apprenticeship or traineeship.
Places in the VCE VM will be limited and be dependent upon successful placement in a VET (Vocational Education and Training) course, suitability, and motivation to meet the requirements of the program. Students who are interested in pursuing the VCE VM will be invited to meet with staff at the College to ensure this is an appropriate pathway.
Upon completion of the two-year program students will receive a Year 12 certificate. This program will prepare students to transition successfully into apprenticeships, traineeships, further education and training, university (through alternative entry programs) or directly into employment.
To be awarded the VCE Vocational Major students must satisfactorily complete the following subjects:-
English (VM)
Maths (VM)
Work Related Skills
Personal Development Skills
2 VCE subjects (VM Specialisation)
VET (Vocational Education and Training)
VET plays an important role in the VCE VM with students required to complete 180 hours of VET at Certificate II level or higher in their senior years.
Students will complete multiple compulsory Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) placements throughout the program.
The award of the VCE VM is comprised of the following:
Completion of coursework
Completion of assessment for each outcome
100% attendance.
Participation in VET and SWL.
Each VCE study is made up of 4 units. Unit 1 & 2 are completed in the first year of the course and Units 3 & 4 are completed in the second year.
Students enrolled in this program will sit the GAT (General Achievment Test)
Students will not be required to undertake end-of-semester exams in Year 11, or external exams in Year 12.
Students going into Year 10 who would like to pursue the VCE VM in Year 11 and 12, are encouraged to apply for a VET course and are able to undertake 10 VM Mathematics. A Year 10 student planning to move into the VCE VM in Year 11 and 12 may consider the program below.

Successful completion of VCE VM units requires attendance in all classes and assessments. Absences can only be approved with a medical certificate or if the student is participating in a formal school activity. Students who anticipate that they will be absent from school should contact their Positive Education Mentor in advance.
In the event of an extended absence, incident or emergency the College will liaise with the student and their family.
Family Holidays
Families are kindly asked to limit trips to the designated school holiday periods. Absences due to family holidays will not be approved, and assessments are unable to be rescheduled for this purpose. Students who attend a family holiday and miss an assessment task will be awarded a UG grade for that assessment.
Students enrolled in this program will receive Course Counselling in both Year 11 and 12 to support their transition to further education or into employment.
Students in the VCE VM will receive a Year 12 VCE certificate and Statement of Results. VCE VM students will not be eligible for an ATAR.
Students and families interested in the VCE Vocational Major and who would like to learn more should contact the College.
