Advanced English 10 will intensively focus on deep and close reading of fiction and nonfiction, critical thinking and analysis, grammar, and thoughtful writing. Students are expected to read and study at home in order to contribute to class discussions of reading assignments, internalize the concepts introduced and discussed in class, gain problem-solving skills, and improve writing skills. Advanced English 10 complies with the required contents of the Common Core Standards for Alabama and the College and Career Ready Standards set forth by the state and is a great precursor to AP Language and Composition course taught in grade 11. The primary curriculum of this course covers a study of world literature from the 1600s through present. Objectives include applying strategies and expressing meanings effectively in a variety of written and spoken modes.
