The Albertville High School Choral Department is one of many Fine Arts offered at Albertville High School, located in Albertville, Alabama. The AHS Choral Department, under the direction of Chris Wilson and Amanda Brandon, consists of the following components: Tech Crew, The Band, Cerendipity Women's Choir, VocalEase A Cappella, CenSations! Treble Show Choir and CenterStage! Mixed Show Choir.
Choir students develop proper vocal technique, proper vocal health, music theory and history knowledge, improve their sight-reading skills, and cultivate the bond of a team working towards one collective goal. We practice these skills diligently so we can be the best we can be. Our technical students learn all the behind-the scenes tasks needed to put on a state-of-the-art production.
The Albertville Tech Crew is a crucial part of the choral department. The crew performs with two competitive show choirs — CenSations! & CenterStage!
The Crew meets for a class period each day and learns theater maintenance, audio and visual skills, along with sewing, building, and painting skills. These tasks are applied to all aspects for the show choir shows and productions being performed in the Fine Arts Center. While this class does meet during the school day there are after-school rehearsals to allow the crew and choirs rehearse together. Tech Crew members are expected to spend time wisely making sure their jobs are done to the highest level in preparation to running a professional show.
The BAND is the foundation of all our show choir productions. These students volunteer their talents to the choral program each year. The Band rehearses one day a week during an evening rehearsal to put together the music needed for the performance season. Rehearsals become more frequent the closer we get to performances and competition season. The BAND travels with the show choirs all over the southeast.
Cerendipity is a non-auditioned choir for treble voices in grades 9-12. This ensemble is a great place for students to be involved in choir, without having the heavy outside of school commitment that show choir brings. This ensemble's focus is on creating a sisterhood bond, becoming more intelligent, confident, well-rounded musicians and performers.
VocalEase is a select group of 10-12th graders who sing a cappella pop and classical a cappella music. They are all members of at least one of the other choirs at AHS. This group meets daily as a class. This group performs not only at adjudicated events, but also for different community events throughout Albertville.
Albertville CenSations! is one of the two show choirs at Albertville High School. CenSations! is a treble show choir, grades 9-12, and consistently places in the top of their division at show choir competitions around the southeast. Our focus throughout the year is on becoming more intelligent, well-rounded musicians and performers. To ensure this focus, CenSations! performs classical repertoire. Albertville CenSations! prides themselves on entertaining audiences above all else.
Albertville CenterStage! is one of the two show choirs at Albertville High School. CenterStage! is a mixed show choir, grades 9-12, and consistently places in the top of their division at show choir competitions around the southeast. Our focus throughout the year is on becoming more intelligent, well-rounded musicians and performers. To ensure this focus, CenterStage! performs classical repertoire. Albertville CenterStage! prides themselves on entertaining audiences above all else.
