Before we begin, make sure you have looked through the Get Started page and you are ready (technologically speaking) to begin.
This semester, we will each be creating a well-researched project for a public audience. Each week, we will take a small step toward completing that project through reading, writing, or giving and receiving feedback.
This week is all about introductions. Introductions to the course, to the technology we are using, and to each other. The only reading this week is the syllabus. This will serve as your introduction to this course. This course may be different than other courses you've taken, in that traditional number grades will not be given for each assignment. Instead, you'll be racking up points to earn the grade you want. How is this crazy experiment going to work? What can you expect and what's expected of you? Read the syllabus in detail to find out.
Then, you will be asked to introduce yourself. You will notice that the syllabus has been left open to comments from everyone. In this week's "Respond" section, you are asked to comment on the syllabus. The questions are designed to allow you as a student to introduce us to your values and your goals, and to help you think about what this class can do for you. Make sure you answer all the questions as fully as possible for full credit. Be thoughtful. The idea here is to find our common ground so that we can collaborate as we build our writing together. The syllabus is a living document and can be changed to suit the needs of our particular class.
This assignment also serves as your introduction to the technology we'll be using this semester. Throughout the semester, you will be asked to comment on your peers' work in Google Drive, just as you are commenting on the syllabus. You will need to be logged in to your UA email account in order to comment.
Comment directly on the syllabus.* Use the guided questions below. Each comment that addresses all questions fully will receive 10 points.
Question:
In what ways does this class align with your values? How can you use this course to help you in your own goals? How does it fit into your aspirations as a scholar? As a professional? As a citizen? After reading this syllabus, what questions do you still have?
