Learning Plan
Unit at a Glance
The unit is intended to take about 10 hours spread out over 2-3 weeks.
Using Local Hunters as Resources
Prior to beginning the unit, invite some local hunters into your classroom that can provide information about the different types of animals that are in your area, and what season they are present in.
There is only one specified day within the unit for students to interview hunters, but this should be done even earlier and often! Invite hunters to participate as often as they can come in.
Don't forget about middle school and high school students! This age group is often very excited about hunting, and may be available in the school to come and help you out with this project.
Using Local Carvers as Resources
Prior to the beginning of the unit, invite (or plan to visit) a local carver in your community if possible. Although there is only one day specified within the unit for visits, this could be done earlier or more often if you have carvers interested in meeting with your students.
