March 1: Deadline to be considered for a Fall or Fall/Spring teaching assistantship (TA-ship).
November 1: Deadline to be considered for continuation TA-ship from Fall to Spring or for a new Spring only TA-ship.
TA Application - have the following items ready to attach to the TA Application.
Current Curriculum Vitae (CV)
Transcript (unofficial is acceptable)
Evidence of application to Federal Work Study Program (US citizens only)
TA Evaluations from most recent TA-ship (if applicable)
Once you have been offered a TA-ship - complete the following tasks at least two weeks before the start of the semester to allow time for processing.
For students new to UAA only: finalize UAA Admissions process.
Go to Careers at UA and apply for the UAA - Graduate Assistant Teaching/Research - Biological Sciences position.
Register for a minimum of 6 graduate-level credits - work with your graduate advisor to insure your course work is in line with your Graduate Study Plan (GSP).

Attend TA Orientation activities the week before the start of the semester. Information will be sent as it comes available.
Enroll in one semester only of Graduate Student Health Insurance. The form must be completed no later than the payment deadline each semester. You will enroll for the second semester (if applicable) prior to the start of the second semester.
Familiarize yourself with FERPA.
Complete FERPA Training. This will become available to you once the hiring paperwork has cleared UA Human Resources Office.
Familiarize yourself with Title IX.
Complete Title IX Training. This will become available to you once the hiring paperwork has cleared UA Human Resources Office.
Complete Lab Safety Training. Dates & times provided at orientation.
All graduate student TAs who are continuing from Fall into Spring need to resubmit a TA Application, and attach the TA Evaluation for the current course you are TA-ing.
October 21: Deadline to be considered for continuation from Fall or for a new Spring TA-ship.

A TA Evaluation is required each semester. Evaluations are due October 31 (fall semester) and February 28 (spring semester).
Graduate Assistant Health Insurance - United Healthcare Health Insurance Coverage
Graduate students employed as Research Assistants, Teaching Assistants, Service Assistants, or have Fellowships (GA's) are eligible for health insurance paid for by the college in which the student is employed or the funding agency. Insurance is a mandatory benefit and provided on a semester by semester basis (WWAMI enrollment excluded). Enrollment is not automatic. Graduate students must provide the Graduate School with a copy of their signed contract letter and submit the online enrollment form to finalize their enrollment process.
