Workshop: Methods for Citizen and Community Science in the Boreal forest

Katie Spellman, UAF

Whether your boreal forest research spans local or regional scales, citizen and community science offers opportunity for both engaging diverse participation in scientific research and gathering valuable data at broad spatial or temporal scales. This two hour workshop will introduce methods for engaging participants from diverse cultures and ages in boreal science through culturally relevant, participant-centered approaches. Workshop will include: 1) hands-on practice in activities to facilitate co-identifying questions of mutual interest to individuals, boreal communities, and your research; and 2) training in Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment (GLOBE) to facilitate standardized data collection, data visualization, and expanded learning.
