2021 IBFRA conference

The 19th conference of the International Boreal Forest Research Association was held virtually last August 16-20. More than 270 participants from more than 30 countries around the world joined the conference and helped develop an exciting, and vibrant platform for knowledge sharing.

The conference's program included daily keynote addresses , 13 parallel sessions, developed by a distinguished scientific committee, panel discussions, a workshop, and art exhibits. Presentations and discussions covered a wide range of disciplines, from arts, to social sciences, ecology, sylviculture and economics to draw an exhaustive representation of the historical and future states and roles of the boreal biome in the global environment. The conference shaded light on an impressive number of local, national and international research programs to better monitor and understand the consequences of climate change on boreal ecosystems and communities all around the circum-boreal region. Art exhibits, a workshop on citizen science, testimonies for elders and social scientists not only stressed the need for transdisciplinarity and multi-lateral collaborations to design efficient mitigation and adaptation strategies in the boreal biome, but also provided tools to develop these collaborations.
