The Enhancing Diversity in Geoscience Education (EDGE) Scholarship is designed to help undergraduate students with demonstrated financial need to complete a Bachelor's degree in Geoscience, with any of the four concentrations, at UAF. This scholarship is funded through the National Science Foundation S-STEM program, grant #2424988.
EDGE Scholars Receive:
EDGE Scholars Receive:
Up to $15,000 in scholarship funding per year, through 2030 (provided students meet the following requirements)
EDGE Scholars must maintain a 2.5 GPA
EDGE scholars attend regular Geo Learning Community meetings
Connection to a cohort of other EDGE Scholars
Participation in the Geo Learning Community, which offers academic, social, and professional development opportunities for undergraduate Geoscience students
Supplemental instruction for the first four Geoscience courses for all degree concentrations: Geos 101, 112, 213, and 214.
Eligibility
Low-income status, based on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Students who are eligible for Federal Pell Grants or Federal Trio Programs (Upward Bound, Student Support Services) are likely eligible for the EDGE Scholarship. Students do not need to participate in these programs to be an EDGE scholar.
Unmet financial need
Domestic status (U.S. citizen, U.S. national, non-citizen admitted as a refugee, non-citizen admitted as a permanent resident)
Declared Geoscience Major
Enrolled in at least 12 credits (full time student status)
Completion of the FAFSA
