Institute of Arctic Biology's Genomics Core Laboratory

Sample Submission

Illumina MiSeq

Samples for sequencing can be submitted at any point in the library preparation stage from gDNA to cleaned, ligated and pooled libraries. Before shipping samples, ensure that the Genomics Core Lab coordinator, Logan Mullen, is ready to receive your samples.

Please ship samples according to these instructions:

  • If possible, set aside a portion of each sample, so that the entire sample is not lost if there is an issue during shipping.

  • Send Sample Sheet as an excel file with indices (if applicable)

  • Send QC documents (gel images, bioanalyzer reports etc) to ljmullen2@alaska.edu before shipping

  • Label and seal all samples

    • For larger tubes, e.g. 1.5ml tubes, include all information on the top and side of the tube

    • Label plates on the side, not on the film

  • Tubes can be sealed with a wrap of parafilm to prevent lids from loosening. A hard container such as a Falcon tube or freezer box should be used to protect samples during shipment

  • Include a print out of your Sample Sheet with the shipment

  • Ship samples overnight, please send at the beginning of a work week. Record tracking number and email it to us, we will notify you of sample receipt.

  • FedEx should be used for international shipments.

  • International institutions: we are only able to accept payment for sequencing services via wire transfer or credit card payment through the IAB secure payment portal.

Sample retention:

  • The Genomics Core Lab will retain samples (gDNA and/or normalized plates of PCR product) for 6 months after a sequencing run is completed. After this period they will be discarded.
