Institute of Arctic Biology's Genomics Core Laboratory

Home

Welcome

The Genomics Core Lab is a centralized research facility at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.  Located in West Ridge Research Building, Room 207,  the Genomics Core Lab offers a variety of instruments for genomics, proteomics, analytical chemistry, and other general scientific applications.  The Core Lab also offers library preparation and sequencing services on Illumina's MiSeq platform. Coordinator Logan Mullen  maintains and offers support and training for a diverse suite of molecular biology and analytical chemistry instrumentation. The Core Lab facilitates learning through training workshops and seminars, so students, faculty, and staff can learn to use available equipment. Temporary lab bench space is also available to local or visiting researchers and students, based on availability and need. We also provide tours upon request. The Genomics Core Lab is supported primarily by the UAF Institute of Arctic Biology and the Alaska IDeA Network for Biomedical Research Excellence (INBRE).

For NGS sample submission guidelines please follow the link in the navigation bar at the top. For pricing inquiries, please contact the Core Lab Coordinator by email: ljmullen2@alaska.edu.

The Genomics Core Lab was established at the Institute of Arctic Biology in 1995 with a grant from the National Science Foundation (Instrumentation and Instrument Development Program). It is a staffed facility that provides support and service to diverse user groups. The Core Lab has been the beneficiary of UAF NSF EPSCoR grants,  NIH BRIN (INBRE) grants, and an NIH COBRE grant. Recently the Core Lab received generous support from the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust and the UAF Teaching Advisory Board for the purchase of the Illumina MiSeq. Ongoing operations are supported primarily by the UAF Institute of Arctic Biology and the Alaska IDeA Network for Biomedical Research Excellence (INBRE).

Of all facilities at UAF, the Core Lab may have the broadest interdisciplinary service. It attracts users from several major administrative units and outside agencies and centers including:
