Marina Alcantar

(she/her)

Based in Fairbanks. Marina is a Ph.D. candidate in the Marine Biology department in Dr. Amanda Kelley's lab. She joined CFOS in 2017 as an M.S. student before transitioning to a Ph.D. Her research examines the effects of ocean change stressors on the physiology, metabolism and biominerology of marine species vital to Alaska's commercial, recreational and subsistence fisheries. She is a 4th generation Alaskan who enjoys fishing, beach combing, reading and adventuring.   

Based in Fairbanks. Dana is a M.S. student in the Oceanography department, working in collaboration with the Alaska Whale Foundation. Dana joined CFOS in Fall 2021 and studies the impact of humpback whale fecal matter on carbon and nutrient cycling in Southeast Alaska . Outside of her studies, Dana can be found nordic skiing on Fairbanks’ glittery snow, and trying to learn to crochet. 

Hannah Kepner (she/her)

Based in Fairbanks. Hannah is a M.S. student in the Oceanography department in Dr. Russell Hopcroft's lab. Hannah joined CFOS in Spring 2022 and studies zooplankton community structure in the Gulf of Alaska using in situ imaging. She enjoys field work, rock climbing, skiing, and knitting. 

Karen Grosskreutz

Based in Juneau. Karen is a Ph.D. student in the Fisheries department. She joined CFOS in Fall 2020. Her research interests focus on community-engaged resource management, knowledge co-production, applied science, and coastal ecology. Karen enjoys skiing, sea kayaking, and playing piano.

Lia Domke (she/her)

Fisheries Student Rep

Based in Juneau. Lia is a PhD candidate in the Fisheries department working with Dr. Ginny Eckert. She joined CFOS in 2019. Her research focuses on nearshore marine habitats in southern Southeast Alaska, like seagrasses and kelps, and their associated fish communities. Outside of research, she enjoys playing in the outdoors, all forms of skiing, and diving.

Isaac Nyameke

Fisheries Student Rep

Based in Fairbanks. Isaac Nyameke is a Ghanaian PhD Fisheries Student and works with the State of Alaska Department of Fish and Wildlife as Technician. He has extensive working experience as an International Fisheries and Aquaculture Consultant for UNDP, AU-IBAR, ECOWAS, USAID and other and local organizations. Isaac loves working with local fishermen in African countries and North America.
