Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns, and I will do my best to accommodate your needs in any way that I can. Please stay safe, healthy, and well. Thank you!

Mandalas with Music for Meditation and Relaxation

A mandala (a Sanskrit word that literally means “circle”), is a shape, usually with intricate patterns, that can be turned and manipulated (with shades and colors) in such a way that it promotes meditation and relaxation. Some people color the images on paper while others watch it on a screen. Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh features a mandala channel on their patients' televisions as a way to ease their minds and those of their parents. When these shapes are paired with soothing music the results can be very relaxing for the viewer/listener.

Young Elementary-Age Relaxation Videos

These programs were designed with very young children in mind, but the soothing sounds and sights can relax individuals of all ages.

Classical Music, White Noise, and Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response (ASMR)

Baroque and Classical music can be very soothing. Some people enjoy using it as background music for studying, while others listen to it as they read or try to fall asleep.

ASMR is when simple sounds, like flowing water or gentle tapping, are played/performed in a way that creates a calming atmosphere for the listener. One might even experience a “tingling” sensation. Sounds like these can be great for relaxation, studying, or even in helping someone to get to sleep.

Hello, Parents and Guardians!

Updates to our initial letter have been bold-faced to alert you of changes in this continually developing situation. In this notice, please be aware that new contact information has been made available to you. Also, this website is specially designed for online instruction, resource retrieval, and up-to-date contact information. Please stay tuned for new developments and modifications.

During these unprecedented times of school closures and social isolation, it has become necessary to shift instruction to online formats and mailed materials (for those who might need them). With regards to music classes for the Mon Valley, Pathfinder, and Sunrise Schools, Mr. Dufalla and Ms. Vaill will be providing instruction through asynchronous video lessons that can be viewed at the students’ and families’ leisure and availability and the mailed materials, when needed. Furthermore, we will also be providing some resources that might be of use to you and your family during this time away from the traditional school setting.

Should you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact us as we will be developing lessons and materials together and sending them along to our respective students. If you are unable to reach us via email, please feel free to contact your student’s homeroom teacher as they will be able to convey any messages to us. If you require telephonic communication, then please provide your student’s classroom teacher with the best number at which to reach you, if you have not already done so. The phone contacts listed below are for leaving voicemail messages as they are our official school lines that can be checked remotely; however, we cannot call you back from those numbers. You would be called back by a different number if you left a message with any of the numbers listed in this message. Thank you for your time and consideration, and may you and your family remain safe, healthy, and well during this extended school closure.

Sincerely,

-The Allegheny Intermediate Unit (AIU3) Music Educators
