The Middle School elective program aligns with our core belief that young adolescents are discovering who they are and their world. During this time of transition our learners are encouraged to inquire, explore, analyze and be courageous with their learning. While the core subjects play a vital role in providing the foundation for future endeavors, the elective program ensures that learners have choice and voice over their learning in order to follow their passions.
The electives program allows learners to transfer the skills, knowledge and understanding from the traditional core disciplines to learning environments that are multidimensional, providing opportunities for deeper learning. Authentic learning experiences are infused within the electives program, where learners develop their character, citizenship, collaboration, communication, creativity and critical thinking skills.
A pathway groups similar elective courses together within the elective program. Over the journey of middle school, learners are required to complete at least one semester from each of the elective pathways. The three pathways are grouped into areas of associated disciplines, while still allowing for a wide range of personal learning experiences. Regardless of the pathway chosen, all students will engage in recording their learning through an appropriate type style of learning portfolio.
The three elective program pathways include Learning to Innovate, Learning to Express, and Learning to Adovcate. Potential elective offerings are listed below.
