AIS-R Student Well-being
Well-being is the state of being comfortable, healthy, and happy.
AIS-R actively supports the academic, physical, social and emotional development of our students. As such, AIS-R has created a Student Wellbeing Task Force, whereby procedures and protocols have been created to support our Faculty and Staff in recognizing and responding to those students whom may need support. The Student Well-being Task Force has also developed an articulated K-12 framework that focuses on social-emotional competencies including: self-awareness; self-management; social awareness; relationship skills, and responsible decision making. Defined lessons, developed to educate our students about the importance of well-being as well as the ways in which they can maintain their wellbeing, are dedicated to helping students and teachers recognize risk factors, model appropriate behavior and respond to the needs of others in a diverse range of scenarios. While student well-being is lead primarily by division counselors, AIS-R values a community partnership with students, parents, teachers, school leadership and external expertise when consultation is needed.
Division specific and developmentally appropriate approaches to student well-being are further outlined in the division student-parent handbooks, found on the AIS-R website.
AIS-R Mental Health Protocols
AIS-R has developed Mental Health Crisis Protocols for all divisions (Mental Health Crisis Protocol - LS (ES) & Mental Health Crisis Protocol - 6-12 (Understanding Mental Health in Teens) which are referenced by AIS-R counsellors and leadership team members when needed.
