Parent Forum on AISL Music Program

Over twenty parents attended the ES-MS-HS joint parent forum on AISL’s music program Wednesday, 19 February at 7:30 am in the PTO Lounge.

Parents had an opportunity to hear from each division music teacher, Ms. Marnie Hurst in Elementary, Ms. Katie Van Zant in Middle School and Mr. Eric Taylor in High school, explain the vision and philosophy behind the changes made to AISL’s music program over the past several years.

In case you missed the presentation, you can review the slideshow by following this link: Whole School Music Curriculum.

HS Valentines Dance on Thursday 13th

In a beautifully decorated gym, high school students danced the night away to their favorite tunes. Chaperones Ms. Capuccio, Ms. Gilbert, Ms. Woodhouse, Ms. Mutwale and Mr. Wrzesinski ensured that a safe and fun time was had by all. Thank you to ASB students, Aya Safieddine and Tiaan De Klerk, and their advisor Mr. Taylor, for organizing the night’s festivities.

AISL’s MUN Club Journey to Turkey for 20th Annual Session

Twenty members of AISL’s Model United Nations (MUN) team departed AISL Wednesday afternoon to make the long voyage to Istanbul from 20-23 February for the twentieth annual session of the MUN Development Program (MUNDP). The conference is held at The Koç School, an establishment that has been hosting this event in Istanbul for two decades. Since its establishment in 2000, the conference has ranked among the best in Turkey and Europe, hosting over 800 participants from 40 schools and eight countries in its last session.

MUNDP is the sole conference worldwide which models the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and each year we set one of the UNDP’s developing regions, each with its own Regional Bureau, as the theme.

Best of luck and safe travels to our AISL students attending the conference: Abhinav Kumar, Vihaan Chugh, Samiksha Khetan, Mariam Manjang, Lakshmi Gopinathan, Tanish Shishodia, Amish Varma, Rhea Dinesh, Ellie Pearson, Muhammad Kamal, Julius Houterman, Maheer Kirpalani, Omar El Saidy, Allan Magarian, Yasmina Barry, Aya Safieddine, Rohan Senan, Harshvardhan Pinge, Umair Mirza, and Joseph Hobeika.

International Day Arrives Friday 28 February

Parents are welcome to join us for much anticipated annual events at AISL, a celebration of our diversity and unity, AISL’s International Day. Starting around 9:45 a.m., students will move into the gymnasium with each student seated in his or her national space on the floor. Following the Nigerian National Anthem, the International Day Choir will perform, followed by the favorite Parade of Nations. We’ll close with AISL’s school song and then the high school will have a chance to savor the delicious food prepared by our hard-working parents. Please remember to save lots of food for middle and elementary school students! High School will then have some House Activities before returning to their 3rd & 4th-period classes. Dismissal this day is at the regular time of 3:00 pm.

Mock Exams Prepare IB Seniors for Rigor of Real Deal in May

For the past three years, the GQ has been the location of choice for students writing the mock and actual IB exams. Away from the noise of everyday campus activities, in a safe & secure environment, students can get a good meal or a cup of coffee between exams and unwind a bit. Mock exams this year will be taking place from March 2 to March 9.

The exam schedule has been shared with the students. G12 parents should be sure to confer with their student to ensure proper timing of travel to and from the GQ.

Let’s all wish our seniors taking IB exams the best of luck this month.

Reminder to Seniors writing MOCK exams at the GQ & visiting campus

Seniors visiting campus to meet with teachers or pick up items from their locker are reminded to always check in with Ms. Bukie when you arrive and leave. This is in case of an emergency like a fire drill or lockdown drill -- we simply need to know who is on campus and where you will be. Thank you for complying with this request.

E-Learning Days Prepare Students for What Lies Ahead!

The purpose of e-learning days is to practice the skills of online communication, collaboration, and productivity through remote education. Schools throughout the world practice e-learning days regularly, much like fire drills. It is important for schools to be prepared in the event of any type of situation that may make coming to school a challenge or a safety issue.

AISL middle school and high school will be participating in a half-day e-learning day Tuesday, March 3rd (this was originally scheduled to be a regular half-day) and Wednesday, April 1 (no, this is not an April Fools prank).

On these days, students will be engaged in meaningful and dynamic learning activities prepared by their subject teachers. These lessons may look different for various classes, as the technology used will best fit the standards and content.

It is preferable that students do not come on campus that day to experience the nature of e-learning; however, students without adult supervision or those that struggle with reliable internet use at home are welcome to come to school these days. If students do come to school Tuesday, March 3rd, they should be picked up at 11:10 for middle school and 11:20 for high school.
