The Newberry Award is for most distinguished contribution to American literature published in English and in the United States 

The Coretta Scott King Award is for outstanding African American authors of children's books

The Pura Belpre Award is given to a and American Latino or Latina writer who portrays or celebrates the Latino cultural experience in English or Spanish  

The Batchelder Award is given to an outstanding book from a country other than the United States and translated into English 

The Theodore Seuss Geisel Award is given to an American book published in English that is designed for Early Readers

The Odyssey Award is given to the producer of the best audiobook for children or young adults, published in English.  

The Robert F. Sibert Informational Book Medal is awarded annually to the author(s) and illustrator(s) of the most distinguished informational book published in the United States in English  

Each year a committee of the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) identifies the best of the best in children's books. According to the Notables Criteria, "notable" is defined as: Worthy of note or notice, important, distinguished, outstanding. As applied to children's books, notable should be thought to include books of especially commendable quality, books that exhibit venturesome creativity, and books of fiction, information, poetry and pictures for all age levels (birth through age 14) that reflect and encourage children's interests in exemplary ways.
