Dr. Jeremy Moore, Director

When the world paused in the early parts of 2020 due the outbreak of a little known virus, no one could have anticipated just how much everything would change. Just as quickly as our programming came to an abrupt halt, I have been struck by the rapid pace with which the world has opened up again. Of all the programs and activities that have reemerged in the three years since, we are so, so pleased to see ISSEA events on our campuses again.

To the student musicians and singers who will grace our campus with your talents- Welcome to South Africa and to AISJ. To the band and choir directors, teachers, chaperones, and Activities Directors- Thank you for breathing life into these programs and activities that provide such meaningful enrichment to our students. And to Meghan Hardy, our rock star Band Director- Thank you, thank you, and thank you again. We absolutely could not have hosted this event without your leadership and tireless determination to bring ISSEA Band & Choir back to life.

We hope our guests enjoy their time on campus and at the beautiful Indaba Hotel. Welcome and best of luck in your performances!

Nicole Schmidt, HS Principal

AISJ would like to extend a warm welcome to our musicians & singers from our fellow ISSEA schools. How lucky we are to welcome you to our campus to create, learn, grow, have fun and perform together. We hope that the collaborative nature of ISSEA Band & Choir inspires each and every one of you to express yourselves through music in a caring and creative environment.

At AISJ, we believe that learning is the development of knowledge, skills and character through experience and reflection that changes who we are. We hope that over the next few days, our young musicians will be changed by this experience.

At AISJ, Arts is one of our pillars and is fundamental to our identity. Musicians inspire us.  Musicians effect social change. Musicians bring joy to communities. Musicians help us process our emotions.  Musicians allow us to express ourselves. Musicians rock!

And thank you to Ms Hardy, our HS Music teacher for her contributions to making this ISSEA event happen.

Have fun and make the most of this special event!

Colin Crumpton, Activities Director

At AISJ we believe firmly in the role that Athletics, Arts, Activities, and Service play in the development of a well-rounded learner. Furthermore, we value the role that in-person, international co-curricular events serve in creating an inclusive, dynamic, and fun learning ecosystem for all stakeholders.

ISSEA represents the pinnacle of co-curricular learning in many ways. Our athletes strive to compete against peers from eight member schools. Our scientists, engineers, mathmaticians, and designers collaborate with likeminded students from across the continent. And through the ISSEA Cultural Conventions, visual artists, actors, singers, and musicians come together to create something altogether new and refreshing. Our campuses are made more rich, more fun, and more vibrant when we host ISSEA events.

As a new Activities Director in ISSEA, I am thrilled to welcome 150 students, teachers, chaperones, and ADs to Johannesburg for the 2023 ISSEA Band & Choir Festival. Here is to an amazing event and to many years of competition, collaboration, and co-curricular growth.
