Welcome to the AISJ AI & Student Well-Being page. We know that while Generative AI is an incredible tool for learning, the rapid pace of new technology can also cause "AI Anxiety," stress, and confusion.
At AISJ, we believe that human connection is our top priority. Generative AI is here to assist us as a "co-pilot," but it will never replace the value of real friends, trusted teachers, and the resilience you build when you tackle a hard problem on your own.
Below, you will find resources and initiatives designed to keep our community balanced, healthy, and human-centered.
We are committed to balancing screen time with real-world experiences. While we encourage the ethical use of our officially approved Green Zone tools (like Google Gemini), we equally prioritize cooperative, device-free learning.
The Expectation: Technology should enhance our community, not isolate us. We encourage all students to actively participate in AISJ sports, arts, and extracurricular clubs to build empathy, teamwork, and social skills that an AI simply cannot replicate.
To support our community in navigating the emotional and social impacts of AI, we have curated the following resources:
Common Sense Media: A Parent's Guide to AI: An excellent primer on what AI is, how it works, and how to talk to your teenagers about using it safely at home.
Understanding AI Companions (e.g., Snapchat My AI): A guide to help parents understand the emotional risks of students forming attachments to chatbots over real people.
Worried About AI? Hereβs How to Cope: Practical advice from The JED Foundation on managing AI-related stress, FOMO, and anxiety about the future.
The Value of the Struggle: Remember our Academic Integrity policy. Skipping the hard work by having AI do it for you robs you of the chance to build confidence and resilience. Use the Green Zone tools to brainstorm, but do the heavy lifting yourself!
CASEL: How AI-Powered Tools Can Enhance Human-Centered Work: A framework for counselors and educators exploring how to maintain authentic human relationships while integrating technology.
Common Sense Education: AI Literacy Lessons: Ready-to-use lesson plans and discussion guides on digital well-being and AI ethics for the classroom.
Teachers: Use these 15-minute prompts during advisory or homeroom to facilitate open, SEL-focused discussions about AI and mental health.
AI vs. Real Friends: Have you ever interacted with an AI companion or persona (like Character.ai)? How does talking to an AI differ from talking to a real friend? What are the risks of treating an AI like a human?
The Value of the Struggle: If an AI can write an essay or solve a math problem for you in 10 seconds, what is the point of learning how to do it? How does the "struggle" of learning something difficult actually benefit your brain and your self-confidence?
How is AI impacting you? We want to know. Are you feeling pressured to use AI? Are you stressed about how it is being used in your classes, or worried about your privacy online?
