I LOVE this idea I saw on Twitter! Totally doing it next year! Things I would need on my cart:
I am lucky to be part of the Emerging Leaders program for the district I work for. During my time, we have been given some great resources to drive data meetings after each assessment as well as research-based corrective instructional strategies to teach the concepts in a different way. They really give our data meetings a framework of what is needed and how to look at the data and then gives our teachers ideas to grab onto and put in their tool box. What are you using for your teachers? I have found having a protocol and resources are vital in seeing student learning outcomes rise!
Observation Schedule and Follow Up template:
I have learned that if you don't map it out, make time for it, and be intentional with your follow through, it won't happen and teachers lost trust in your. This is why I have created a system for coaching and feedback that has been quite successful as I transitioned to Hill ES. I make sure that each week, I am in at least 12 classrooms. Out of these 12 classrooms, I am looking for the following things:
After I stay in the classrom for 15 minutes, I always leave and send a positive email since it takes me a bit to get the exact feedback to the teacher. I thank them for letting me be in their room, let them know something positive I saw and how it impacted student learning, and then ask a question and set up a time for follow up face to face. This lets the teacher see that immediate feedback and know that I am looking for the good, too. It helps make the follow up meeting comfortable and two-sided which is when true coaching comes to life. See my template I use below:
This year at Wood, we are going to try to increase our connections to each other and to educators outside our school using Twitter. We will start by facilitating a professional learning session called "Twitter 101" to explain our "why" and "vision" behind utilizing Twitter for learning in a different way. We will host our first school wide Twitter Chat on Thursday, August 17th @ 2:30 over our Technology Break Out Sessions from that morning. Our hope is that each month we will have a different topic or focus in our learning sessions and teachers will show the fruits of their learning using our school wide hashtag. I can't wait to see how our scholars benefit from this, seeing their teachers become learners in their craft. Below is the presentation I created using the WONDERFUL Adobe Spark. Enjoy!
