Title of Artwork: Happy Colorful Snails

Medium: ink on paper, wood, wax, colored pencil

Artist Statement: This artwork expresses the most pattern, but it also expresses Balance, Contrast, Unity and Rhythm. The process that I took to make this stamp was that at first we took a candle and melt it so that the wax goes into the shape (square). Then we put it in the oven do that the wax is flat. Finally we cut out the pieces to make the snail with it's engine on the back. Then we put it into inck and made the stamps on a paper. The white areas were then colored in color pencil. This artwork represents a snail with an engine on the back , because it is the logo of my dad’s solex team. I chose to do this because I thought it would be different then what other people will do and unique.

Title of artwork: Pietà (after Michelangelo)

Medium: digital photograph

Artist Statement: I chose this famous artwork because last winter vacation, I visited Italy, and I saw this real artwork. Since Jesus was not seen as the main character and Maria appeared as the main character, the people of the past who saw this work cursed a lot in this work, but in fact, the hidden meaning of this work is that they think about the level and perspective of Jesus in heaven. This is because Jesus can be seen the best from the eyes of Jesus. I listened to this explanation while traveling and it was very memorable, so I tried this work.

Title of artwork: The past of black

Medium: acrylic on canvas

Artist Statement: My artwork is about showing the only colors of many different colors of paint and I wanted to show a different color staying in one canvas and the colors are not harmonious, but I mixed colors with other different colors and made it look like it has the same mood so that the canvas look harmonious when I paint on it.

Title of artwork: Seeing Through the Lenses

Medium: acrylic on canvas

Artist Statement: For this artwork, we had to make something that showed metaphors and transformation. In the top right corner, you can see the moon and a luna moth. These are both symbols of transformation, and the luna moth relates more to the moon than a butterfly, as it's first name, ‘luna’ comes from Spanish, where ‘luna’ means ‘moon’. On the entire bottom half, we can see it's filled with flowers. There are 8 types of flowers; sunflowers, roses, green carnations, narcissus flowers, verbena flowers, Alcea Rosea, pansy flowers, and clematis flowers. These each have individual meanings, as well as they are one of the main transformation points. In the middle of the canvas, we see a pair of glasses. Personally, when I put on glasses, I can’t see a thing, which is why the lenses are fogged up instead of clearer.

Title of artwork : Portrait

Medium : I used graphite pencils and paper.

Artist Statement : There is not a definitive meaning to this artwork that is set out. I chose to put this piece for the art show because it can be ambiguous to different people, conveying different expressions or meanings depending on who views it. I started off with the eyes and eyebrows, which were the easiest part, and the hardest was the jawline and face shape. It is surprisingly hard to make an accurate line with only dots that looks crisp, so I tried a fading effect.

After this process, I wondered how I can use the different patterns of Zentangles in my artwork. Thus, I came up with the idea of drawing different patterns inside the alphabets of “ZETANGLE”. Moreover, I have used an i-pad to draw the artwork because I did not have enough coloring materials in my house to use, which I have ended up using the i-pad to have more opportunities of choosing different colors. Title of artwork : BEAUTY OF NATURE

Medium : Pencil, pen, colored pencil, Colored pen

Artist Statement : This artwork’s theme is “Nature”, since turtles are losing their habitat and getting killed from the trash humans throw to the sea I wanted to use this situation as an example to show how beautiful nature is. In one of the columns, I included a swirl of red, blue, and green which represents “Fire”, “Water” and “Land” since these three items are absolutely essential things in nature. Also, I made sure that I did not color the same color next to each other which makes the drawing prettier. I used as many patterns as I could to show how powerful nature is and how nature has different ways of expressing its beauty. Finally, this artwork took me around 5 hours to finish in total and I am very proud of what I drew and I hope that everyone will understand my thoughts for this artwork.

It is a picture of nature, in a spot that should not be inhabited by humans, that is inhabited by them. This artwork was made many times over, on the same canvas. I had to constantly redo the mountain and the sky, using the new techniques that Mr. Sujeeth taught us. I used wet-on-wet, meaning that it was wet paint on wet paint, which made the blending better. Overall, I think that I am proud of this.
