Materials and Techniques: watercolour
This year at Seymour we created individual paintings that represent the positive characteristics of each student through animals. Students chose an animal, and their strengths and abilities, that they could relate to or see themselves in. They learned to draw their animal, and depicted them in the style of a stained glass window. Students used watercolour, and learned how water carries emotion and feeds all creatures of mother earth. The effect of the black outline and colourful interconnecting shapes created a 3D like image with 3D glasses. Children had fun using the glasses to change their perspective of their art piece and bring it to life.
These paintings were worked up over multiple sessions. Each piece carries a story important to the individual child and the making process is a practices for positive self-affirmation .
Students were slowing down and listening to their bodies; they learned how to break down an artpiecce into steps, from concept, to design and to carefully building up a meaningful piece that they can be proud of. Just like getting to the top of the playground, do you get there in one jump or in many steps.
View these pieces with empathy and care, recognizing the each has personal voice and shares a story.
We invite you to gently use the 3D glasses to see the work.
