Science Festivals

The National Science Week (NSW) is an annual nationwide celebrated initiative of the Department of Science and Innovation (DSI), a celebration of Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Innovation (STEMI). It involves various stakeholders and/or role players who participate by conducting STEMI activities during the declared week. It is one of many initiatives conducted under the Science Engagement Strategy, which seeks to develop a society that is knowledgeable about science, able to form independent opinions about science and are scientifically literate.

South Africa's National Science Week

AIMS exhibition stand at festivals aims to showcase the work of AIMS to the broader community in South Africa, foster excitement in the wonder of mathematics, and inspire more young people to pursue STEM studies and careers.  The stand features hands-on activities, posters and presentations to showcase research conducted at AIMS and the importance of mathematical sciences and their application in everyday life. The exhibition served as an information desk about AIMS programmes (e.g., postgraduate training, scientific research and public science engagement), and opportunities for graduates, learners, teachers, academics, researchers and the general public.

 Pi-day /International Day of Mathematics

International Day of Mathematics or Pi-day aims to increase public learning and understanding of science (PLUS) and appreciation for mathematics.
