As freelance interpreters working for the EU Institutions, our remuneration, social protections, and working conditions are safeguarded by a long-standing collective agreement negotiated by AIIC: the EU-AIIC Agreement (known in French as la Convention). The Agreement is upheld and administered by the three AIIC Delegations representing all freelance interpreters in the EU sector. The AIIC European Union Negotiating Delegation (EUND) is composed of AIIC members elected by all freelance interpreters working for the EU Institutions, regardless of whether they are AIIC members themselves. The EUND is the body mandated by AIIC to negotiate, manage, and ensure compliance with the Agreement. 

The two professional delegations, the European Commission Professional Delegation (ECPD) and the European Parliament Professional Delegation (EPPD)  are composed of both AIIC and non-AIIC members. They are elected by all freelance interpreters working respectively for the European Commission and the European Parliament. Their role is to represent interpreters' interests vis-à-vis the management of these Institutions and to liaise with the EUND on matters affecting the profession.

The extensive rights and protections that interpreters enjoy today in the EU sector did not come about by chance. They were the result of decades of dedicated work, negotation and advocacy by successive generations of delegation members. Their preservation depends on the continued commitment and vigilance of the EU sector delegations. Yet no delegation, however dedicated or capable, can defend these achievements without the broad support of the profession as a whole.
