Teacher Blog
I will be using Google Blogger to communicate with both students and families about what we have been learning about; what we will be learning about in the upcoming week; and, upcoming assignments, projects, summative assessments, deadlines, etc. I will email out a link on most Fridays of each week to my blog as a reminder of a new posting.
My first blog to welcome you to a new school year and to Global Studies is already posted! You can click on the hyperlink above (if you have an ahschools.us account) to read the blog, or read my blog below. Included at the end of the blog is a short video of why we learn geography and what you can do with your geography skills.

Welcome to 8th grade Global Studies! This is not your typical social studies class that you experienced in your 6th and 7th grade years. Global Studies is a geography course where we study both physical and human geography and focus on events that are relatively current. We will dig deeper into both human and physical geography in our course and study how both human and physical geography go together in this world in which we all live.

I have two tips for you as we start our course. First, come to class prepared to be engaged in learning every single day! That means not only coming to class with the required materials (pencils, notebooks, etc.), but be ready to dig deep into the lesson we are learning about and to always ask questions to get a deeper understanding of our topic. My second tip for this year is to make some friends in class, even during distance learning. The friends you make in class will help you understand what we are learning and will help you make sure you do not fall behind. We move pretty fast in Global Studies, so making some friends to keep you on task is definitely worth it.

Finally, a question that every teacher gets from their students is "why do we need to know this?" Here is a short video on some of the reasons why we study geography and what you can do with your new skills.
