Why study Photography?

AS Photography offers the opportunity to develop photographic skills and combine these with creative idea development.

You will develop skills in:

• the use of digital imaging, alongside the use of light-sensitive materials
• manipulation of the image to include silver-based and digital formats
• personal enquiry and expression involving the selection and manipulation of images
• creative ideas and outcomes
• exploring contextual connections between your own work and the work of others

Throughout the course you are required to create a work journal illustrating your skills and development of ideas. You create final outcomes from these investigations.

Entry requirements

An interest in photography and a desire to develop both skills and produce creative ideas. GCSE Art or Textiles has been most beneficial to aid your creative journey.

It is advised that you have your own SLR camera

London day trip x 2 - approx. £25 each

Portfolios/sketchbooks - £5 each

Black & white darkroom paper x 25 - £10

A3 inkjet paper - £28

Mountboard - £15

Printer credits - £5 – £10 depending on final prints

How is the course organised?

AS Personal Creative Enquiry

• an extended, exploratory project/portfolio and outcomes based on themes which are personal and meaningful to the learner;
• an integrated approach where critical, practical and theoretical work are combined to produce a cohesive response;
• the Personal Creative Enquiry will be internally determined, teacher assessed and externally moderated.

Assessment

Personal Creative Enquiry (100% of qualification)

• Internally determined, internally assessed, externally moderated

Time commitment

4 taught hours per week in addition to private study time.
