Dear Parents and Carers
This week our students have been involved in the joint production of Midsummer Night's Dream. I attended on Tuesday evening and it was fantastic. A huge thanks to AGS and well done to all the students involved, to the staff for their hard work and also to our parents and carers whose support we could not do this without.
Over the weekend, our Year 11 Geography students spent a very wet weekend in Dorset, read more below. Thank you to all the staff and students for their hard work and to our parents and carers for their support.
Our Year 13 Biology students attended a workshop at the Natural History Museum, more below.
Yesterday, we held our first SEND Coffee Morning of the year, which gave parents the opportunity to meet our SEND team and each other.
We wish you all an enjoyable half term break and look forward to welcoming out students back to School at 0845 on Tuesday 4 November.
U14 Sisters in Sport Netball Team
Last week
Netball
The U14 team had a Sisters In Sport netball match against Wycombe Abbey School. An unfortunate loss but amazing play from AHS up and down the court.
Opposition player of the match - Uchenna and Orla
Coaches Player of the match - Scarlett
Football County Cup
It was the first game for our U12 Football team. They played with no substitutes but unfortunately lost 2-0 to Sir Henry Floyd Grammar School. A very promising team.
This Week
Netball (Aylesbury League)
The Year 7 netball teams both played this week.
The A team won 27-1. What a brilliant team, very talented attack and such height in defence.
Person of the match - Rosie
The B team won 6-2. They played really well and are a lovely group of students.
Person of the match - Kacie
The U18 netball team won 25-14 against Great Marlow School, massive well done, great game from all.
Football County Cup
Not such a great day for the U13 Football team, as they lost 10-0 to John Colet School but hard work put in from all.
Please do not drop off students for AGS and AHS in the Wynne Jones Centre. It is a busy entrance at this time and stopping here is not permitted. We have also been contacted by the Probation Service whose office is there and they have told us that it is not a safe place for our students to be dropped off. Your cooperation with this is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Could you help with our practice Multiple Mini Interview session for Year 13 students on Thursday 13 November?
Each year we run a mock Multiple Mini Interview session for our students who have applied for Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Medicine courses at university and would love to hear from any parents/carers who would be willing to volunteer to act as interviewers. The MMI format requires candidates to move through a number of short, focused but quite different, interviews in a very short space of time. Questions are provided and no specialist knowledge is needed (though if you have some, that would be very welcome!). This practice session will take place on Thursday 13 November 4.00pm - 5.30pm at school. Please contact me at msutton@ahs.bucks.sch.uk if you might be able to help.

Careers and Next Steps Lead
To follow up on last week's item about our Digital Detox, we are thrilled to announce that over 250 students have already signed up and seem really committed to improving their relationships with their phones. You might find it useful to have a look at the assembly our student-led group presented this week. There is still time for students to sign up, so please do encourage your daughters to do this over half term - and please do join in too!

The start of a new academic year always brings joy as we see our students deep into learning and embracing the curriculum and all it brings. This half term we have celebrated our value of Curious Engagement and students have immersed themselves in and out of the classroom. The clubs and activities have enabled our students to get involved and try out new things from the Med Society Club, Book and Film Club, Choir, Debating and Art to name a few!
Students have asked questions, delved deeper in their learning and considered what they see, hear and read. Reading is built into form time, enabling time to develop a thirst for reading and time in the morning before embracing the rigours of our curriculum at AHS. Students have been imaginative, taken initiative and explored their learning in many different ways.
In Science, 30 students showed Curious Engagement in the STEM talk about Virology. They asked some remarkably high level questions - the speaker has visited before and was impressed with the level of engagement of our students and the extent of their knowledge.
Our Year 12 Physicians have also been busy experimenting and dropped oil on water to estimate the size of a carbon atom. It was lovely to see and hear them, as they saw the reaction from the oil in the water.
In Art, students in Year 12 have developed their painting skills, working with a local artist to delve deeper into understanding techniques and what it is like to have a career as an artist. They have demonstrated Curious Engagement, as well as Boundless Aspiration, in the creation of their expressive portrait pieces.
The thriving Med. Soc. run by Year 13 students tried their hand at suturing this week. Fun was had by all and the intricate nature of the task was also fully appreciated. Thank you to our students in Year 13 for organising this and showing great leadership skills as part of our Selfless Generosity value.
We are excited to further embed our Values in the next half term.

To all GCSE art students from last year, it is now time to come and collect your GCSE art work. Please don't just turn up, as this work will need to be packed up for you. You will need to email our technician to arrange a suitable collection date. Please email Mrs Keens at akeens@ahs.bucks.sch.uk.
Many thanks
Mrs Hartwell, Head of Art
This week Year 13 Biology students visited the Natural History Museum in Oxford. This was to give them an insight into the world of Molecular Biology and its fundamental techniques. Our students were investigating the genetic basis for liking or disliking sprouts!
The Year 11 Geographers went on their annual trip to Dorset over the weekend to prepare for their Geography Paper 3 GCSE. On Friday, they spent time in Boscombe assessing how successful the regeneration has been in the town and on Saturday, they investigated how successful the coastal management strategies are in Swanage Bay. On Saturday afternoon, students had the opportunity to see Old Harry's Rocks and on Sunday, Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove. Despite the heavy rain on Sunday, a good weekend was had by all
