Dear Parents and Carers
We have had another busy week at AHS. There has been a lot of sport this week and we thank all the staff, students and parents for their hard work and support. More about this below.
On Tuesday, our Year 11 Business students had a very interesting day at Wimbledon, learning all about the business side of the tournament; further details below.
On Wednesday and Thursday, we welcomed prospective students and their families to our Open Mornings.
On Thursday evening our Year 7 students went to the theatre in London to see the Lion King, which they all thoroughly enjoyed.
Today, approximately 66 Year 11 Geographers have gone on a field trip to Leeson House, near Swanage in Dorset. This is part of their GCSE preparation; we wish them well and thank our staff and parents for their hard work and support with this trip.
We wish all the staff and students good luck with the joint production of a Midsummer Night's Dream, taking place at AGS from Monday - Wednesday next week.
Finally, just a reminder that students will finish school next Thursday at 3.30pm for half term and return on Tuesday 4 November at 8.45 am.
Last week
Football
There was an U18 Football Tournament at Royal Latin School - they had a fantastic day with 5 wins, 1 loss and 1 draw, scoring 17 goals and conceding only 3. They finished 2nd overall out of 7 teams. Anya G scored 6 goals across the day. Well done team.
English Schools County Round Netball
On Sunday, netballers competed at Stowe School, the U14s lost 1 and won 4.
The U16 won 2 but lost 3
U19s were runners up and through to the Regionals in January. Massive well done.
This week
Football County Cup
The U13s played Pipers Corner School but sadly lost 3-4. It was however, a fantastic, close game.
The player of the match was Liesel.
Hockey District League
The Year 8 team played Waddesdon and the game ended in a 3 -3 draw. It was a close, competitive match with the goals scored alternating between teams.
The player of the match was Mayukha
The U16s played Waddesdon but sadly lost 0-3. They played really well in a close game, showing their talent with only 9 players.
Amazing captaincy by Rosie.
The Year 7 team had a mixed friendly match, with coaching to develop their match play.
Rugby
There was an U16 Rugby Tournament at Aylesbury Rugby Football Club with great fun had by all.
Netball (Aylesbury League)
The Year 8 A and B teams played at home this week against John Colet. The A team won 11-1.
The player of the match was Uchenna
The B team were so close losing by just 1 goal.
The player of the match was Tessa
Cross Country
The first round of the ESAA Cross Country Cup was run at Princes Risborough School on Tuesday 13th October. Our teams ran a lovely course in the cold and misty morning. Points were scored by each runner to obtain the final results which were:
Junior Girls, AHS placed 11th
Intermediate Girls, AHS placed 5th
Senior Girls ran well but we didn’t have a whole team so did not gain a place.
Only the schools that finished in the top three go through to the next round so we turn our efforts to the next competition!

We would like to invite you to the first of our Aylesbury High School SEND Coffee mornings. Sometimes being a parent of a child can feel very lonely and this will be an informal opportunity to meet with members of the SEND team and other parents too. There will be a lot to talk about. We will be looking at what is going well and asking for your input on what we, as a SEND team, can do better. We will also be discussing future sessions and what topics you would find helpful.
The coffee morning will be held in the SEND corridor on 22 October from 9-10.30. If you would like to come along, please can you fill in this Google Form so that we have an idea of attendance. We very much hope that you will join us and we look forward to meeting you. Unfortunately, you will be unable to park on site, unless you require disabled parking. If you park on the roads around the School, please do so with consideration for our neighbours, thank you.

You will all be aware of the worrying research form Kings College London and from authors like Jonathan Haidt (The Anxious Generation) which show that the mental health of our young people has dramatically declined since the advent of the smartphone.
Next week we are launching The Great House Digital Detox Challenge! Our student-led Digital Detox group wants to help our students make healthy choices about their phone use, to find strategies to reduce screen time and improve the quality of the content they consume. We hope they will join us to feel less stressed, and more present and motivated in real life.
Students can sign up to a variety of challenges such as:
Social Media Sabbatical: Can you go 2 weeks without your favourite app?
Mindful Media Swap: Ditch the doom-scrolling for a week! Replace it with a podcast, Headspace, reading a book, or a creative project.
Screen Time Shrink: Can you cut down your daily screen time by 1 hour? 2 hours?
Digital Curfew - agree on a time to go screen free each evening
Phone Free Zone - agree not to use your phone in your bedroom, or at the dinner table
How it works
The challenge will run the two weeks after half term (but if students want to start during half term, then that's great!) They sign up using this form to tell us which challenge they are entering. The more they rise to the challenge, the more house points they’ll earn. When the two weeks are up, we’ll send out another form where students can tell us how they got on, earn those House Points and the form with the most points will earn a ‘sponge the teacher session’!
Thank you for your support in encouraging your daughter to take part. Many of our staff will also be participating - please do join in too!

Please find below information relating to the consultation for our Admissions Policy (September 2027 entry).
Each year the Admission Authority for all schools and academies is required to review their admission arrangements and the Admission Authority must consult on proposed changes to the admission arrangements. The Admission Authority for Aylesbury High School is its Governing Body.
The Governing Body wishes to consult on proposed amendments to the School’s Admissions Policy, which would take effect from the beginning of the academic year in 2027. The 6 week consultation period for this policy runs from Thursday 16 October to Thursday 28 November 2025.
The Governing Body welcomes any comments on the updated policy. Please send your comments to the Headmistress' PA, Mrs Hilary Osgerby, at secretary@ahs.bucks.sch.uk making clear that they are for the attention of the Co-Chairs of Governors.

Congratulations to the Year 8 Arts Award students for completing 'Alice the Camel' for Waddesdon Manor and the Christmas Trail. We are excited to see her in full glory over the upcoming months.
Also, well done Year 7, we are excited to see your Frank Stella flower vase pieces embedding the formal elements in the creation. The selection from 7W are looking amazing!

It was a pleasure taking 65 of our Year 11 Business students on a fascinating trip to Wimbledon this week. The visit provided an invaluable opportunity for the students to apply their classroom learning to a real-world, globally recognised business. They thoroughly enjoyed the interactive elements of the day, with many finding the museum and the stadium tour particularly engaging. They didn't just learn about the tournament's financing and operations, but also the serious business of, well, grass. Yes, we discovered Wimbledon is so dedicated to its perfect 8mm lawn that they actually employ someone to check the number of blades! The experience broadened their perspective, helping them see the vital roles of sustainability, media, reputation, and customer satisfaction, alongside the technical aspects of running such a massive, world-class sporting event. Parents who volunteered with us also shared their positive experience:
'It was a truly amazing experience, and I thoroughly enjoyed having access to the courts with such fantastic tour guides.' - Shabnam
' It was so insightful to see all the “behind the scenes” activity that goes on to make Wimbledon the impressive event that it is. It was a really well organised and enjoyable experience! - Prasharnie
'I really enjoyed that trip, the girls were very behaved and I had a chat with the guide staff and they were very happy with our school’s group: well-behaved, friendly, and engaged throughout.' - Riaz

Y11 made Brain Hats this week, mapping functional areas of the cerebral cortex for the Nervous System topic.
