Dear Parents, Carers, and Students
Wishing all a lovely half term!
A wonderful buzz around the school at the moment with so many travel adventures underway - our Year 9 students are currently thoroughly enjoying their super week in Valencia, and just this morning, our Year 10s began their journey to Iceland. Looking to the week ahead, a further cohort of Year 9s will be making their way to Loire Valley. A huge thank you goes out to our fantastic staff, parents, and carers for making these trips happen, and we wish everyone safe and happy travels!
With exams fully underway and half-term next week, safeguarding your well-being is more important than ever. Please ensure you are balancing your time by resting, enjoying the beautiful sunshine, and connecting with friends and family. As always, the School community has our full support. You can reach out to us whenever needed through Form Tutors, Heads of Year, or the School Office, and we will happily direct you to the right team member.
Last week
Tennis
Last week Year 7 and 8 played some friendly doubles Tennis matches against Sir Henry Floyd Grammar School, which we won. Great work.
This week
Cricket
The U13 Cricket team played at Chesham Grammar school this week. Winning 57/3 v 48/4. We are now through to the knock out stages for the first time. Well done.
Tennis
The year 9 and 10 A Tennis teams played vs Beaconsfield High School at AHS. We lost 5-1, but great effort from all.

Last weekend another 64 Year 10 students completed their Bronze DofE Expedition Training. Despite the forecast of heavy rain, we were lucky and the weather was kind to us, only having to break out the waterproofs whilst cooking Saturday's dinner! There were lots of lessons learnt about meal planning, kit needed and rucksack packing amongst how to plan a route and manage group dynamics. Another great weekend in the fresh air. All are now looking forward to completing their Expeditions in June.

This year’s Chemistry Analysts competition was quite unlike the years before. Instead of the usual kind, this time the students were greeted with a gripping mystery prompt of solving the cause of an unknown illness that had befallen a pharmacist at a local pharmacy, turning every participant into a part-time forensic scientist. Every lunchtime for the past week, the whole science block had transformed into a fizzing detective headquarters to solve the fictional mystery using real chemistry skills that were taught by our teachers. This co-curricular presented itself as a brilliant opportunity to test them and have fun.
Come 13:30PM , the excitement would kick in straight away when we entered the labs, every team would huddle, read the instructions thoroughly so as not to miss a single detail and whisper their next steps into confirming their theories and/or suspicions of the mystery substances in the materials tray. The competition was split into three distinctive segments that all (by the end) would point each of the teams in the right direction to catching the ‘culprit’. Part one involved analysing coffee by carrying out tritrations. Things were starting to piece together really nicely, then came part two and this was when things got very cinematic and dramatic with figuring out the composition of a commercial lip stain by carrying out a very technical TLC. This moment made everyone wait with bated breath because the coloured analyte spots brought us one step closer to our conclusions. The final stage was swift and intense, with all the acetone pouring, steaming water baths and weighing as we analysed the make-up of hand creams— one of three chemical candidates.
By the end, we all agreed that it was a great adventure, all in the comfort of our classrooms. If you enjoy puzzles, friendly rivalry and solving mysteries, the Chemistry Analysts competition would be the perfect ‘solution’. Join now. The clues will be waiting for you and the next case will be yours to solve!
A huge, huge thank you to Mrs Waverly and Mrs Nicholls for organising and keeping the mystery run smoothly.
We hope to see you join us next time!
