Dear Parents, Carers, and Students
With exam season now in full swing and half term fast approaching, I would like to reinforce the importance of maintaining a healthy balance. While academic focus is vital, taking time to rest, spend time outdoors, and enjoy the company of friends and family is equally essential for well-being. If you have any concerns or require guidance, please do reach out at any time via Form Tutors, Heads of Year, or the School Office.
Outside of the classroom, it has been wonderful to see our sports teams so active in tennis, cricket, and our first aquathlon of the year. It was also lovely to see our students enjoying their Bronze DofE Training Weekend; you can view the images and read more about their experiences below.
Last week
Aquathlon
First Aquathlon of the year at Pipers Corner School. Our 8 triathletes showed real determination and strong swims by all. Shout out to Nidhi, Lottie and Bea for their 2nd and 4th place positions in their age category. A huge well done to the entire team—even "the hill" couldn't wipe the smiles off their faces! We are incredibly proud of your hard work and sportsmanship.
This week
Tennis
A fantastic turn out for our Year 9 and 10 Tennis teams vs Sir Henry Floyd Grammar School. Very close matches throughout, whilst demonstrating 'boundless aspiration'. The final result was a 9-8 win to AHS. Well done to all involved.
Cricket
It was the first game for our U13 Cricket team vs John Colet School this week and some of the girls represented the school for the first time. They played the match in every weather possible (sunshine, rain ,thunder and hail). Batting first gaining 70 runs with 1 wicket so fielding needed to be on point. John Colet scored 54 and we took 8 wickets with 7 different bowlers stepping up. A brilliant start to the season, well done to all.

Last weekend 82 Year 10 students completed their Bronze DofE Training Weekend. We were blessed with sunshine for a beautiful walk in the Chilterns and all the students thoroughly enjoyed learning how to map read, pitch tents, cook on a trangia stove and pack their rucksacks. The Expedition Wales Instructors were very impressed with the engagement and effort put in from the students.

As we recently said goodbye to our Year 13s and they focus on exams for the next month or so, our new Year 12 leaders become the most senior students in school. They have had some training sessions on communication, delivering assemblies, safeguarding and embodying core values and are now primed and ready to continue the excellent work of our outgoing Cabinet and House Captains.
They were appointed following a thorough interview and application process in the run-up to Easter. We are really looking forward to them driving our school community and House system forward in the next twelve months. Our joint Head Girls worked so well this past year that we were delighted to offer the opportunity to two students again this year. They have all been busy recording their first online House Assemblies. Congratulations to the following:

We are delighted to celebrate the achievements of Vivienne, Georgina and Matilda at the Show Racism The Red Card awards at Manchester United's stadium. To have three winners chosen from a pool of 20,000 submissions and 300 schools is an outstanding accomplishment. This success is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our Art Department, whose support helped Aylesbury High become the only School to win in three separate artwork categories!

Whether your daughter is navigating KS3 assessments, GCSEs, or A-Levels, the upcoming exam period can feel intense. During this high-pressure time, prioritising sleep and mindfulness is not a distraction from revision—it is an essential part of it.
A well-rested, calm mind processes, retains, and recalls information much more effectively than a stressed, sleep-deprived one. Late-night cramming severely disrupts the deep sleep needed for memory consolidation. Teenagers require 8 to 10 hours of sleep per night to function at their psychological and academic best.
Top Tips for Students
Stick to a regular routine. Wake up and go to bed at the same time every day to anchor your body clock.
Protect the final hour. Switch off all phones, tablets, and laptops 60 minutes before bed. Blue light tricks your brain into staying awake.
Reframe your breaks. Step away from your desk completely during revision intervals. Go for a walk or try a quick breathing exercise to reset your nervous system.
Clear your mind. If your brain is racing at bedtime, write your worries or tomorrow’s to-do list on a piece of paper to park those thoughts.
How Parents Can Help
Encourage the "Wind-Down". Help them establish a 30-minute pre-bed routine consisting of reading, a warm bath, or listening to calming music.
Manage the environment. Keep the home environment as quiet, dark, and cool (ideally around 17–18°C) as possible during the evenings.
Offer digital boundaries. Consider a mutual agreement to charge phones downstairs overnight so notifications do not disrupt sleep.
Focus on effort, not outcomes. Reassure your daughter that her well-being is vastly more important than any test score.

As we move further into the term, we would like to take this opportunity to thank the many students who continue to wear their school uniform with pride. However, we have recently noticed an increasing number of students wearing skirts that do not align with our official uniform requirements. To maintain a professional learning environment and ensure consistency across the school, please ensure that all skirts meet the length and style criteria outlined in our policy. We kindly ask for your support in checking these requirements before students leave for school in the morning. For full details on our expectations, please click here to view our up-to-date uniform policy.

After the success of the Fun fair that we set up last year to raise funds for the #playyourpart campaign to resurface the tennis courts, the Science department is pleased to be running it again this year. Just like last year, it will be both a chance to give generously to a worthy cause but also win points towards winning the House Science competition. There will be a selection of fun fair style stalls hosted by our new Y12 science ambassadors and friends, all with a science theme of course, such as 'feeding time at the zoo', atom smashing, the human stopwatch, steady hand games, catapults and more!
Entry and taking part is by purchasing strips of raffle tickets, available now on parentmail or at the entry with cash or card. Both buying tickets and scoring well on the stalls can add to house points and all the funds raised will go towards the CRY Memorial fund for Amelia Apliin. Waddesdon were worthy winners last year, can they hold on again this year?

This memorial fund has been set up by the family to help CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young) raise awareness of young sudden cardiac death, support those affected, support CRY’s screening programme and fund research and pathology. If you are able to support this great cause, please follow the link below.
As part of our ongoing commitment to safeguarding, we are currently undertaking a comprehensive audit of all imagery across our website, social media channels, and printed collateral. You may have seen recent reports from the National Crime Agency (NCA) and the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) which highlighted a deeply worrying emerging threat where criminal gangs manipulate innocent, face-on photographs of pupils from school platforms with generative AI for the purpose of digital exploitation and blackmail. To mitigate this risk, we are moving toward a privacy-first approach. This involves removing or replacing high-resolution, front-facing photos of students and prioritising safer imagery, such as shots taken from a distance, from behind, with a hand across the face or focused on school activities rather than identifiable faces. The identifiable photos on the website will be replaced with AI generated photos.
We are also working to ensure that no student is identifiable by both name and face across our digital footprint.
We are very saddened by this change, which means that there will be fewer photos in our newsletters, on our website and social media feeds, but feel that we must take action.
With thanks, as ever, for your support, and wishing all a lovely weekend,
Marieke Forster
