Dear Parents and Carers
Another busy week with the public exams continuing, but coming ever closer to their end. Please remember to reach out to us if you need us, we are here to support you.
Last weekend, 43 Year 10 students braved the weather forecast of thunderstorms to complete their D of E Bronze Award qualifying expedition; further details below. Thank you to Mrs Hamilton and Mr Gelinas for supporting this.
On Tuesday, 12 Year 7 and 8 students participated in the demanding Junior Maths Kangaroo and Olympiad papers. These challenging competitions are designed for the very top performers in the Junior Maths Challenge, and their dedication to tackling such rigorous problems is truly commendable. Well done to all who took part, we are incredibly proud of you!
Last night, 80 Year 9 students went to see Wicked at the Apollo Victoria Theatre, London. Thank you to all the staff and parents who made this possible.
As we shared last week, we've successfully reached our initial fundraising target unlocking the Sport England matched funding. This was a significant milestone, and it brings us much closer to providing a top-notch sporting facility for our students and the wider community.
Reaching this goal means we've now been able to go out to tender to identify a contractor to complete the refurbishment work. This is an exciting phase, as we begin to select the right team to bring our plans to life. We'll be carefully reviewing all submissions to ensure we choose a contractor who can deliver the highest quality results for our community.
As we move forward with the refurbishment, we also have an important stretch target: to raise an additional £8,000 that will enable us to purchase essential sports equipment for the newly renovated courts. While the initial target covers the court resurfacing and structural improvements, having new, high-quality equipment will truly complete the facility and enhance the sporting experience for all our students and the wider community who also use our facilities and bring in additional income into the School.
To help us achieve this, our dedicated crowdfunding campaign is still open for another 25 days. Every contribution, no matter how small, brings us closer to our goal of providing the best possible sports experience for all who use our facilities. You can still contribute directly via https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/refurbishment-of-sports-court-and-aylesbury-high.
We'll keep you updated as we move through the tender process and select our preferred contractor. Thank you once again for your continued support in making this project a reality for our school.
Students and staff helped make our final climb in fundraising for the #PlayYourPart campaign. We were solidly cycling all day - on possibly the most balmy day of the year, just about avoiding a storm.
We have had lots of fun raising money in school as part of the campaign and we would like to thank all the staff and students who have been involved in helping to support and fundraise over the last few weeks.

You will be aware that two of the most prevalent crimes affecting young people are child exploitation and online harm.
Thames Valley Police and Matthew Barber, the Police & Crime Commissioner for Thames Valley, have produced two short videos for parents, which we have shared with you below:

Last weekend, 43 Year 10 students braved the weather and set off in 7 groups from Great Missenden, Prestwood and Princes Risborough to walk to Ellesborough where they camped overnight, before returning to a different finish point the following day.
The students completed about 20km over the 2 days, journeying each day for 6 hours, with their full rucksacks. Thankfully camp was set and all had eaten before a brief heavy shower and the roll of thunder arrived that was forecast on Saturday evening.
All were determined to complete the expedition and good spirits prevailed, in particular it was great to see that their map reading skills and a strong team spirit were applied throughout.

As part of their award, DofE students must complete an hour of volunteering every week, at Bronze for 13 weeks, Silver for 26 weeks and Gold for 52 weeks. This section is about giving time to do something meaningful, motivated by making a difference rather than making money.
This is a significant commitment to undertake and has a huge impact on the students themselves, and the people they support with their volunteering. Meaningful volunteering is different for everyone. Some of the activities our students have completed include supporting charity shops, Girl Guides, tutoring, litter picking, cadets, animal shelters, sports coaching, and support to online conservation research.

Year 8 are developing their artwork this term looking at Architecture and Design. They were set with their first drawing using pen and markmaking of images from our school. On Saturday, 17 May, our amazing Y9 Magistrate Mock Trial Team represented AHS at the Regional final in Nottingham Justice Centre.
Unfortunately, they didn't win first place but the organiser told us that we were just 2 marks behind the winning team. This was a great achievement after coming second at the Milton Keynes heat.
Their performance is evidence that AHS Walks Tall and the team can't wait to help the team which will enter next time. They have set the bar quite high; well done team!
